How Red Light Therapy Works

What Red Light Actually Does
When red and near-infrared light hits your skin, it’s absorbed by the mitochondria inside your cells — the structures responsible for producing energy. That light stimulates the mitochondria to produce more ATP, which is the fuel your cells run on. More energy at the cellular level means your cells can repair faster, recover more efficiently, and function at a higher level overall.
This process is called photobiomodulation, and it has been studied in thousands of clinical trials over the past several decades. The research supports its use for reducing inflammation, accelerating tissue repair, improving circulation, supporting skin health, and easing chronic pain.
