If you already have a wellness practice — yoga, meditation, regular massage, or something else entirely — red light therapy isn’t asking you to start over. It’s asking to join what you’re already doing.
That’s one of the things we love most about what we’ve built at Red Light Retreat. The ten minutes you spend in the bed aren’t meant to replace anything. They’re meant to make everything else work a little better.
What Red Light Actually Does
When red and near-infrared light hits your skin, it’s absorbed by the mitochondria inside your cells — the structures responsible for producing energy. That light stimulates the mitochondria to produce more ATP, which is the fuel your cells run on. More energy at the cellular level means your cells can repair faster, recover more efficiently, and function at a higher level overall.
This process is called photobiomodulation, and it has been studied in thousands of clinical trials over the past several decades. The research supports its use for reducing inflammation, accelerating tissue repair, improving circulation, supporting skin health, and easing chronic pain.
How It Pairs With What You’re Already Doing
Yoga and Stretching
Red light therapy before yoga can enhance flexibility and reduce joint stiffness. After, it speeds recovery and reduces muscle soreness. The anti-inflammatory effects complement the lengthening and opening work your body does on the mat.
Meditation and Rest Practices
Red light exposure has been shown to support the production of melatonin and improve sleep quality. A session in the evening, paired with your wind-down ritual, can support deeper sleep and a more recovered nervous system.
Massage
Red light before massage loosens the tissue and increases circulation, making the work more effective. After massage, it supports lymphatic drainage and reduces residual soreness. At Red Light Retreat, we offer massage as an optional add-on to any session — and the combination is specifically designed to maximize both.
Strength Training and Athletic Recovery
Red light therapy has some of its strongest research support in the athletic recovery space. Studies show it reduces exercise-induced muscle damage, decreases delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), and improves strength output over time when used consistently. Professional sports teams use it. Our bed gives you access to that same technology.
